The General Council of the Association of University Teachers (AUT), Tamil Nadu, held at the AUT Office, Chennai, on 25th May 2025

The meeting marked the first official gathering of the newly elected General Council members for the period 2025–2027.

The following resolutions were unanimously adopted:

  1. The General Council of the AUT unanimously resolves and directs the General Secretary, AUT to challenge the Criminal O.P. No. 16114/2023 filed by Thiru. Krishnaraj seeking relief on behalf of himself and 9 other non-members at the Honorable High Court, Madras in the capacity of the General Secretary whereas he was not even the member of AUT.
  2. The General Council of AUT unanimously resolves and directs the General Secretary of AUT to appear and file Counter in respect of the W.P. No. 15785/ 2025 challenging the Report dated 01.04.2025 of the District Registrar of Societies, Central Madras in respect of the Complaint dated 13.08.2018 and as directed by the Honorable High Court in W.P. No. 8949 of 2019.
  3. The General Council of the AUT unanimously resolves to prefer a fresh Complaint against Thiru. Gandhiraj and Thiru Krishnaraj and others who are still misusing the Name, Address and the Emblem of the AUT much against the findings and Report dated 01.04.2025 of the District Registrar of Societies, Central Madras.
  4. The General Council of AUT unanimously resolves to request the Honorable Chief Minister and the Honorable Minister for Higher Education to take cognizance to close down the PG Extension Centre at Perundurai, Erode district which caters the  Poor, Rural, Backward, Most backward and Scheduled Caste aspirants for admission into 6 different PG Courses at a meager Cost of Rs 1500/- . This Government shall ensure quality and better Higher-University Education in this Part of Tamil Nadu for the Educationally Backward Classes of the Society in this Part of Tamil Nadu.
  5. The General Council of AUT unanimously resolves to request the Honorable Minister for Higher Education to intervene immediately and arrange to release the funds required for the dues on account of the CAS already granted to the Teachers of Aided Colleges.
  6. The General Council of AUT unanimously resolves to request the Honorable Minister for Higher Education to intervene immediately and arrange to grant the CAS in respect of the Aided College Teachers who are yet to be granted the CAS.
  7. The General Council of AUT unanimously resolves to request the Government of Tamil Nadu to bring appropriate and suitable Amendments to the 20 State Universities (except the Tamil Nadu National Law University, Trichy and The Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University) to the effect that the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu shall be the Chancellor of these Universities instead of the Honorable Governor of Tamil Nadu.
  8. The General Council of AUT unanimously resolves to request the Government of Tamil Nadu to ensure proper constitution of the Admission Committee 2025-26 by co-opting the Scheduled Caste members on the Committee and also ensure that the Aided Stream students are levied only the Government prescribed fee during Admission.
  9. The General Council of AUT resolves to request the Higher Education Department to ensure that there is only one Admission Committee both for the Aided Stream and Self Financing Stream in Aided Colleges throughout Tamil Nadu.
  10. The General Council of AUT resolves to implement the Prohibition of Capitation Fee (Educational Institutions) Act 1992 and prevent the Management of Aided Colleges from fleecing the poor student aspirants in the state of Tamil Nadu.
  11. The General Council of AUT resolves that the Government of Tamil Nadu may be pleased to direct the Principal Secretary to Government Department of Higher Education to efficiently administer the State Universities where there are no Vice-Chancellors and where the Heads of VC Committees in the place of the Vice-Chancellors.
  12. The General Council of AUT resolves to request the Government of Tamil Nadu to appoint an IAS Officer as the Registrar, Periyar University, Salem and set right all the ills of The Administration of the University in the last four years.
  13. The General Council of AUT resolves to request the Government of Tamil Nadu to constitute an Inquiry into the nomination of Dr Periyasamy, HoD Tamil as in-charge  Vice-Chancellor by the then Vice-Chancellor, Dr R Jaganathan and all the commissions and omissions of Dr Periyasamy as the VC in-Charge of Periyar University from 10.05.2025 to 28.08.2025
  14. The General Council of AUT resolves to request the intervention of the Higher Education Department to hold an impartial Inquiry into the Excess Fee Collection in the name of condonation fee for the Thiruvalluvar University during 2024-25
  15.  The General Council of AUT resolves to insist upon and implement the UGC regulations, 2023 by the respective Universities to nominate only the senior most faculties as the Academic Council/ Governing Board of Autonomous Colleges.
  16. The General Council of AUT resolves to urge the Department of Higher Education to initiate urgent and immediate steps to release the long pending Salary since April 2024 due to the Teachers and staffs of Erstwhile Constituent Colleges of Bharathidasan University and withdraw the legal fight at the Madras High court of Madurai Bench.
  17. The General Council of AUT resolved to urge the Bharathidasan University, Trichy to absorb the 34 regular teachers, reverted to the University from the erstwhile Constituent Colleges against the vacancies existing in the University Departments  in consonance with the resolution passed by the Syndicate (Item No.:2019;  159, 240th meeting dated 13.11.2019).
  18. The General Council of AUT resolved to urge the Government of Tamil Nadu under the Department of Higher Education to intervene and impress upon the Interim Administrator to conduct the Elections to the Pachiayappa’s Trust Board to enable the constitutions of the College Committees at the earliest. 
  19. The General Council of AUT resolved unanimously to urge the Department of Higher Education to immediately remove Thiru. DuraiKannu as the Secretary of Pachiappa’s Trust Board for his victimization to its teachers and constitute an Inquiry into the corrupt deeds of the incumbent Secretary.
  20. The General Council of AUT urges the Department of Higher Education to restore the incentives for M.Phil./Ph.D, discontinued since 2016 to College teachers.

Earlier the Central Office Bearers Dr. R.Saravanan, Dr. K. Raja and Mr.K. Syed Ahamed Kabeer were sworn in as the President, the General Secretary and the Treasurer, respectively with the Newly Elected Zonal Office Bearers and the General Council Members for the period 2025-2027.
